Students in Mrs. Griffin’s 6th grade math class had a full circle great time on March 14, Pi Day! Students measured the circumference and diameter of various circles to find the ratio of pi, as well as doing art, a word scramble, a maze, and, of course, eating pie! Student Council holds record canned food drive! 6th Graders Enjoy Outdoor Education 6th grade camp has been a wonderful tradition that offers students experiences outside the classroom and in the great outdoors. In September the 6th grade team, along with Dr. Bauer, Nurse Baird, our D.A.R.E. Officer Jim, and six cabin leaders from the junior/senior high school accompanied the 6th grade class to Camp Storer. Students enjoyed fire building, archery, rock climbing, fishing, shelter building, and more. Principal Bauer shows the overflowing bike racks outside the elementary school on National Walk & Roll to School Day Last spring hundreds of students and staff in K-12 participated in National Walk & Roll to School Day. The Ottawa Hills Schools Parent Association has since provided funding for additional bike racks. Last day of school! Chefs Special Alphabet Reading Elementary students in Mrs. Christen’s language arts class enjoy a special guest this reading her debut children’s book, "Chef’s Special Alphabet." Author Paige Gaylord, daughter of Elementary School nurse, Tiffany Gaylord, read her book to several classrooms. Paige was inspired to write this children’s book because she always wanted to be a chef and often baked with her grandmother. Now Paige is working towards her Board Certification as a Behavior Analyst and hopes to write more children’s books in the future. 5th Grade Students Learn About Worms as Decomposers Mrs. Genzman’s fifth grade science classes studies decomposers. Utilizing the brand new lab tables and Apple TV, students got a up close look at worms and how they work hard to break down matter. The worms, along with their castings, will be used after the experiment to help fertilize the native plants and wildflowers growing around the Land Lab.
